Claude Code

The skill findersetup

Describe what you're working on and a free skill searches 700,000+ Claude skills for the one that fits, then installs it once you say yes.

Claude skills are basically apps, but there’s no proper app store to find them in. So someone at Vercel built a skill that does the searching for you.

You describe what you’re working on, it searches a directory of 700,000+ skills for the one that fits, and installs it once you say yes. This is the #1 skill of all time on skills.sh.

Before you start

What you need: Claude Code, and Node.js installed (that’s what gives you npx).

How long: about 5 minutes.

Tech skills: one command in a terminal.

Free or paid: the skill is free. Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan.

Scan before you use anything it finds. The directory can’t guarantee every skill is safe. Set up the skill scanner as well. It takes 10 minutes and it’s step 4 below.

Step 1: Install the finder

Time: 1 minute.

Paste this into your terminal:

npx skills add https://github.com/vercel-labs/skills --skill find-skills

If it asks which agent to install it for, pick Claude Code.

Link: skills.sh/vercel-labs/skills/find-skills

You’ll know it worked when the install finishes without errors. Start a new Claude Code session so it loads.

Time: 1 minute.

You don’t need to know what to search for. Just tell Claude what you’re doing.

I'm writing a proposal for a new client. Is there a skill that would help with this?
I'm editing a video for Instagram. Find me a skill for this.

Phrases like “is there a skill for…”, “find a skill for…” and “how do I…” are what wake it up.

Step 3: Pick one and say yes

Time: 1 minute.

It comes back with options: the skill’s name, what it does, how many installs it has, where it’s from and a link. Nothing gets installed until you say yes.

Lean towards skills with lots of installs from a source you recognise. The finder already prefers them, but it’s your call.

Step 4: Scan it before you use it

Time: 1 minute once it’s set up.

Run every skill it finds through a scanner first. Follow the skill scanner setup once, and Claude will scan every new skill before installing it from then on.

Anything that scores over 50, don’t install it.

Search it yourself, too

You can search the same directory straight from the terminal:

npx skills find proposal

The final check

  • find-skills is installed
  • I described a real job and got options back
  • I said yes to one and it installed
  • The skill scanner is set up, so new skills get scanned first

If something looks different

“npx: command not found”. You need Node.js. Install it from nodejs.org, open a new terminal, and try again.

Claude doesn’t use the finder. Start a new Claude Code session so it picks up the new skill, then ask “is there a skill for…” in so many words.

It found nothing that fits. Try describing the job a different way. If there’s genuinely nothing, it’ll offer to help directly or to build you a skill.
